Hot Desk vs Dedicated Desk in Dubai: 950 vs 1,500 AED a Month

A hot desk at Oh My Desk is 950 AED a month and a dedicated desk is 1,500 — a step of 550 AED, of which 360 is nothing more than three extra meeting-room hours valued at our published 120 AED rate. The reserved seat itself therefore costs about 190 AED a month, just over 6 AED a day; and the question that really decides between the two plans is not price at all but address, because a dedicated desk exists only at Downtown while a hot desk works at all three.

Hot desk or dedicated desk in Dubai: which one do you actually need?

Take the dedicated desk if you are in four or five days a week, you leave equipment behind, and Downtown suits your commute. Take the hot desk in every other case — including, and this is the part every comparison skips, if you need Business Bay, because a dedicated desk is not sold there at all.

That second half is the fact worth carrying away. Price separates the two plans by 550 AED a month; geography separates them completely. A hot desk is sold across a network — one badge, every address. A dedicated desk is sold building by building, because it is a physical position in a room that holds a finite number of them. Our own dedicated desk page says so in as many words.

Everything below is measured against the rates we bill, and against what other Dubai operators published on their own sites on 31 August 2026. Where a page could not be read, we say so rather than repeat a figure at second hand.

What is a hot desk in Dubai, exactly?

A hot desk is a monthly membership to a coworking floor with no seat attached to it. You take whichever desk is free, and when you leave it returns to the pool. Nothing of yours stays on it overnight.

At Oh My Desk that membership is 950 AED a month, the same 950 whether you use it twice or twenty-two times. It covers the open floor at all three addresses on a single badge — Downtown, Business Bay, and the Design District — plus high-speed Wi-Fi, coffee and tea, printing, DEWA and air conditioning, 24/7 badge access, and one hour of meeting room a month.

The word to handle carefully is flexible. A hot desk is flexible about where you sit, not about what you pay: the rate does not shrink in a month spent travelling. If attendance is genuinely irregular, the flexible product is the day pass at 120 AED.

What a hot desk does not include

No reserved position, no storage you can lock, nothing left out overnight. Those three absences are the whole of the difference between the two plans — and once the included meeting-room hours are valued properly, they are worth 190 AED a month rather than 550.

What is a dedicated desk, and how is it a different product?

A dedicated desk is a named position in a room: your desk, your chair as you set it, a locker you can shut. It is 1,500 AED a month, at Downtown, and carries everything the hot desk carries plus four hours of meeting room a month instead of one, lockable storage, and — this surprises people — the same three-address badge. A dedicated desk member can still drop into Business Bay for a day as a hot desker; the reverse does not work.

The reason this is a different product rather than a larger size of the same one is supply. A floor can sell more hot desk memberships than it has chairs, because attendance is never simultaneous. It cannot sell more dedicated desks than it has positions. That single constraint explains why dedicated desks exist at some addresses and not others, why they run out, and — as the market table below shows — why so few operators publish a price.

What do the two plans cost, month by month and year by year?

Here is the full arithmetic, with VAT, because the monthly figure on a pricing page is never the figure your bank shows. Our published rates exclude VAT and 5 % is added at checkout, so every line below has a debited version.

Two numbers deserve a second look. 6,930 AED is the twelve-month gap once VAT is counted — a shade over one month of a small private office, which starts from 6,000 AED. And 210 AED is the debited dedicated-desk day pass, the only way to try the product before committing. The same arithmetic across every plan is worked line by line in our Dubai coworking cost guide.

What does the 550 AED step actually buy you?

Most of it is meeting-room time, and it is remarkable how rarely anyone says so. The hot desk carries one hour a month; the dedicated desk carries four. Those three extra hours are worth 360 AED at our published meeting room rate of 120 AED an hour for a room of up to eight people.

Derived from Oh My Desk published rates, 31 August 2026. Room rate is the ≤ 8-person rate.

So the seat itself — the one nobody else can take, with the drawer you can lock — costs about 190 AED a month, just over 6 AED a day. At 550 AED you weigh it up; at 190 AED you mostly stop weighing. If you would have booked three hours of room time anyway, the upgrade is close to self-financing; if you never book a room, you are paying the full 550 for the position. One caveat we apply to ourselves before anyone else does: included room hours belong to monthly memberships, not to day passes.

Where in Dubai can you actually get a dedicated desk?

At Oh My Desk, at Downtown, and nowhere else in our network. This is not a detail buried in terms and conditions; it is the sentence our own service page leads with, and it is the most useful line on this page for anyone whose commute points at Business Bay.

Oh My Desk, 31 August 2026. A dedicated desk member’s badge still opens all three addresses.

We are not unusual in this, which is why it is worth checking before comparing prices: a dedicated desk is a room fixture, and a network sells it where the room has room. A 1,500 AED desk twenty-five minutes from home is a worse product than a 950 AED desk five minutes away, whatever the figures suggest side by side. If Downtown is the address in question, the thing most people underestimate is the drive in — covered separately in our guide to parking in Downtown Dubai.

What does the rest of the Dubai market charge for a dedicated desk?

Almost nobody publishes a number. What the Dubai market publishes is ranges, and the ranges do not agree with one another. Here is what four sources said on their own pages when we read them on 31 August 2026.

Source, read 31 August 2026What it publishes for a Dubai dedicated deskIts own price, or a range?

Figures read on each operator’s or publisher’s own page, 31 August 2026. Prices move; check the source before quoting it.

Read those lines together and two things fall out. The two guides disagree by 1,000 AED at the top of the same product in the same city, published ten days apart. And the second guide’s own hot desk range — AED 800 to 2,500 — overlaps its dedicated desk range of AED 1,200 to 3,500 across 1,300 AED. A range with that much overlap cannot tell you which product you need.

The reason so few publish a figure is the supply constraint from earlier: a hot desk price can sit on a website for a year, while a dedicated desk price is a quote against whatever positions are free this month. We publish ours because a figure you can read is the only kind you can compare — the principle behind our guide to the cheapest coworking spaces in Dubai, compared.

Three operators we could not read, and why we say so

Regus (IWG), WeWork and Letswork are absent from that table because their pages could not be retrieved from here on 31 August 2026 — WeWork’s Dubai page answered with an outright refusal. Regus has now been unreadable on three attempts, on 18 and 30 August and again today, which stops being an accident. We would rather leave an operator out and say why.

From how many days a month does a monthly plan beat a day pass?

From the eighth — and it is the eighth on both plans, which is exactly why “how often do you come in” does not separate them the way people expect it to.

Before VAT. Because 5 % applies to passes and memberships alike, the crossover day does not move.

Both monthly plans are priced at a shade under eight day passes, so the crossover lands on the same day on either side. In practice that means attendance tells you whether to take a monthly plan at all; it does not tell you which one. That second question is answered by what you leave behind overnight, and by which address you drive to.

Which plan fits which kind of worker?

With the arithmetic settled, the choice comes down to three honest tests, none of them about how much you earn.

Take the hot desk if…

You are in fewer than four days a week; you travel out of Dubai most months; you carry a laptop and nothing else; you are new here and still learning how your week will shape up; or your days are split between Downtown and Business Bay, in which case the roaming badge is worth more than any fixed seat.

Take the dedicated desk if…

You are in four or five days a week; you run a second monitor, a drawing tablet or a microphone you would rather not carry; you handle documents you would not leave on a shared surface; you book rooms often enough that three extra hours is money you were spending anyway; or you receive deliveries at work. And Downtown suits you, because that is where the desk is.

Is a dedicated desk really better for focus, or is that marketing?

It is a real effect with an unglamorous cause. What a fixed seat removes is not distraction but set-up: no decision about where to sit, no plugging and unplugging, no re-adjusting a chair someone else set. Nobody can promise deeper work for 550 AED; what is defensible is that you start faster.

Does either desk give you a business address or an Ejari?

Neither, on its own — and this is the confusion that costs people the most time. A desk membership is a place to work. A registered address is a separate, regulated product, and the two are sold separately by almost everyone in Dubai.

The UAE government portal is unambiguous about why. Its guide to starting a mainland business states that “all businesses in the UAE must have a physical address to operate”, and adds that an office rental agreement must be provided and that “in Dubai, the agreement must be registered with Ejari”. A desk membership is not that agreement. What satisfies it, in our case, is Virtual Office + Ejari at 8,000 AED a year, which can sit alongside either desk plan or stand on its own.

So the honest ordering is: settle the licence and the address first, then decide where you sit. Choosing a desk in the hope that it doubles as a registered address is the most expensive mistake here, because you discover it at licensing rather than at signature.

Is a flexi desk the same thing as a dedicated desk?

No. A flexi desk is a licensing term; a dedicated desk is a piece of furniture with your name on it. They are not competing products and not even the same kind of thing, which is why the query flexi desk vs dedicated vs mainland turns up in our own Search Console every month.

A flexi desk is the shared-desk facility a free zone packages with a trade licence so the licence has premises: it is defined by what it does for your paperwork. A dedicated desk is defined by what it does for your working day. You can hold a flexi desk in one free zone and work daily from a hot desk elsewhere, and plenty of people do. What a flexi desk includes, which licences accept one and where it stops being enough is set out in our guide to what a flexi desk actually is.

What happens if you pick the wrong one?

Very little, and that is worth knowing before you agonise over 550 AED. Our desk plans carry no lock-in, 30 days’ notice, no setup fee and no deposit: the cost of choosing wrong is one month, and the cost of trying the dedicated desk first is one 200 AED day pass.

So for anyone undecided: start on the hot desk, use it a month, and count two things — how many days you actually came in, and how many times you wished you had left something behind. If the first is eight or more and the second above zero, move up. If the second is zero, you have your answer and you kept 6,930 AED a year.

FAQ: 10 quick answers

Ten questions taken from the search queries this page already receives.

1. What is the difference between a hot desk and a dedicated desk in Dubai? A hot desk is a shared seat you take first-come, first-served and leave empty at the end of the day; a dedicated desk is a fixed position assigned to you, with lockable storage. At Oh My Desk that is 950 AED a month against 1,500 AED. The other difference matters as much: the hot desk works at all three of our addresses, the dedicated desk only at Downtown.

2. How much does a dedicated desk cost in Dubai? A dedicated desk at Oh My Desk is 1,500 AED a month before VAT, at Downtown — 1,575 AED debited, 18,900 AED over a year. Across the wider market, published figures we could read on 31 August 2026 started at AED 1,395 (Cloud Spaces), while two guides quoted ranges of AED 800–2,500 and AED 1,200–3,500. Most Dubai operators publish no price at all.

3. How much is a hot desk in Dubai? A hot desk at Oh My Desk is 950 AED a month before VAT, or 997.50 AED debited, with no fixed seat and access to all three addresses on one badge. It covers high-speed Wi-Fi, coffee and tea, printing, DEWA and air conditioning, 24/7 badge access and one hour of meeting room a month, with no joining fee and no deposit.

4. Can you rent a desk in Dubai by the day? Yes. A day pass is 120 AED for a hot desk and 200 AED for a dedicated desk — 126 and 210 AED debited once 5% VAT is added. Day passes are the right product below eight days a month; from the eighth day the monthly membership costs less on both plans. Included room hours belong to memberships, not passes.

5. Is a flexi desk the same as a dedicated desk? No. A flexi desk is a licensing arrangement a free zone attaches to a trade licence so the licence has premises; a dedicated desk is a workspace product with your name on the furniture. They solve different problems and you can hold both at once. If your goal is a licence rather than a place to work, a registered address is what you need.

6. Where can you get a dedicated desk in Dubai? At Oh My Desk, a dedicated desk is available at Downtown only — Al Fattan, facing City Walk. Business Bay and the Design District sell hot desks, meeting rooms, private offices and virtual offices, but not fixed desks. That is normal across the market, because a dedicated desk is a physical position in a specific room. Check the address before comparing prices.

7. Can you get a dedicated desk in Business Bay? Not at Oh My Desk. Our Business Bay address at Bay Square, building 12, sells hot desk coworking, meeting rooms and private offices, and a Downtown dedicated desk member can use it as a hot desker whenever they like. If a fixed seat in Business Bay is the requirement, a small private office delivers it, not a desk plan.

8. Are hot desks and dedicated desks available 24/7 in Dubai? Yes — members have badge access 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on both plans. What is not 24/7 is the front desk: reception is staffed Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Anything needing a person — a tour, a delivery signature, help with a room — belongs inside those hours.

9. How many meeting room hours come with a hot desk or a dedicated desk? A hot desk includes one hour of meeting room a month, a dedicated desk four, and a private office six. Beyond that, a room for up to eight people is 120 AED an hour. So three of the 550 AED separating the two desk plans is really 360 AED of room time, leaving about 190 AED for the reserved seat itself.

10. Does a hot desk or dedicated desk give you an Ejari in Dubai? No — a desk membership is workspace, not a registered address. The UAE government portal states that all businesses in the UAE must have a physical address to operate, and that in Dubai the rental agreement must be registered with Ejari. That is a separate product: Oh My Desk sells Virtual Office + Ejari at 8,000 AED a year.

The short version of hot desk vs dedicated desk in Dubai

The 550 AED separating the two plans is mostly meeting-room time: value the three extra hours at 120 AED and the reserved seat itself costs about 190 AED a month, just over 6 AED a day. Both plans stop being worth a day pass on the same day, the eighth — so attendance tells you whether to go monthly, not which monthly.

What decides it is what you leave behind overnight and, above all, which address you drive to: a dedicated desk is available at Downtown only, while the hot desk works at all three.

The straightforward way to settle it is to sit in both. The tour is free, a hot desk day pass is 120 AED and a dedicated desk day pass 200 AED, and notice is 30 days — so a month on the wrong plan costs a month. Book a free tour at Downtown and see whether the desk you want is the one with your name on it.
