Dubai Design District Restaurants: 14 Compared, From AED 22

Where should you eat in Dubai Design District?

Start with Mohalla in Building 5, Smat in Building 10, Vicolo in Building 4 and One Life Kitchen & Café in Building 5 — those four, plus The Lighthouse in Building 6, are the only d3 venues that publish a price you can read before you sit down. Mohalla’s vada pav at AED 22 is the cheapest hot dish with a published price in the district; Smat’s Q-Roll is AED 24, Vicolo’s sliced margherita AED 29.

If you work at d3 rather than visit it, the question is what is open when you need it. Backyard in Building 1 and PEOPLES Honest Eatery & Coffee in Building 9 open at 07:00; Otaku, Smat and Bageri Form at 07:30. Backyard runs to midnight, seven days — 119 hours a week, the widest window here. Mayg opens at 18:00: 38.5 hours a week, no use at lunchtime.

How did we rank these, and what could we not check?

We ranked on the hour each venue opens, earliest first, because it is the one thing almost every d3 venue publishes and almost nobody compares. Ties break on hours a week, then alphabetically. Nothing here is visited or reviewed; it is compared, on what each operator and each landlord put in public, read on 27 September 2026.

The spine is d3’s own retail directory — the landlord’s tenancy list, not a magazine’s. It carries 98 tenants, 14 of which sell food. We added two that are not in it but publish a d3 building number themselves, Vicolo and The Lighthouse, so the landlord’s list is not exhaustive.

Three things we could not do, and would rather write than fake: no Google ratings, because we cannot read Maps from here; no walking times in minutes, so we publish the building number instead, which is what d3 itself uses; and no opinion on the food, because we have not eaten in any of them.

And the disclosure: we are not on this list. Oh My Desk (that’s us) runs coworking and private offices at d3, not a restaurant. We appear once, near the end, as a priced alternative — and every mention of us is marked.

What does the full comparison look like?

Fourteen venues, by opening hour. Hours are the landlord’s published timing, or the operator’s own where it is not in the directory. The last column is the cheapest hot dish the venue publishes a price for.

Which d3 restaurants open before eight?

Five: two at 07:00, three at 07:30 — earlier than every office tenant here.

1. Backyard — Building 1, 07:00 to midnight

The widest window at d3: seventeen hours a day, every day, 119 hours a week, and the only venue open at both 07:00 and 23:00. Building 1, ground floor, unit R06. No menu and no price on any channel we could read — its listed website is an Instagram account. Note the name: a Dubai real-estate firm holds backyard.ae and has nothing to do with it.

2. PEOPLES Honest Eatery & Coffee — Building 9, 07:00 to 22:00

The other 07:00 opening, and the earliest to shut: fifteen hours a day, seven days, 105 hours a week, Building 9 unit R04. The name promises honesty about what things cost; it publishes no prices at all, which is the running joke of this list.

3. Otaku — Building 7, 07:30 to 23:30

Sixteen hours a day, every day, 112 hours a week — joint third-widest window with Smat and Acai Berry. Japanese and fusion, Building 7 unit R02, the block that also holds Soyl and Home Bakery Kitchen, the densest food address at d3. Otaku publishes no price list of its own; the delivery platforms carry one, and a delivery price is not a restaurant price.

4. Smat — Building 10, 07:30 to 23:30, from AED 24

Emirati cooking, sixteen hours a day, 112 hours a week, and the most usable menu in the district: its own site publishes prices section by section with each serving window. Breakfast runs 07:30 to 16:00 — scrambled Q-Roll AED 24, egg sando 26, small shakshuka 29. Mains all day: Alfredo chicken pasta 50, chicken tikka 75, wagyu skewer 125.

5. Bageri Form — Building 4, 07:30 to 20:00, later at weekends

A Scandinavian bakery in Building 4 unit R08, and the only venue here whose weekend is longer than its week: 07:30–20:00 Monday to Friday, 08:30–22:00 Saturday and Sunday, 89.5 hours a week. It is also the earliest weekday close at d3 — a breakfast and afternoon room, not a dinner one. Its one-page site carries a philosophy, a careers link and no menu.

Which ones open at eight?

Six of the fourteen, including the two biggest names here and the two that publish most.

6. Acai Berry — Building 11, 08:00 to midnight

Sixteen hours a day, every day, 112 hours a week, and the latest close of the 08:00 group. Building 11 unit R05, at the far end of the district from Building 1. Açaí bowls and juices, nothing published on price. Beware the domain acaiberry.com: it belongs to an American supplement seller and is not this business.

7. One Life Kitchen & Café — Building 5, 08:00 to 23:00, from AED 35

At d3 since 2016, Building 5 ground floor, 105 hours a week, and the only venue here that roasts its own coffee and publishes what it charges for it: its d3 menu lists an espresso at AED 16, americano 20, latte 24. Food starts at a kashkaval pide, AED 35, then crêpes 44, wood-fired margherita 50. Cheapest main, 68.

8. Vicolo — Building 4, 08:00 weekdays, 10:00 weekends, from AED 29

Italian street food in Building 4, one of two venues demonstrably at d3 without being in d3’s directory: its own site publishes the building number, the hours and a full menu. Roman-style margherita in teglia, AED 29; focaccia panino 34; Neapolitan margherita 54. It is also the only d3 menu that states its prices include 5 % VAT.

9. La Lupa — Building 8, 08:00 to 22:00

Fourteen hours a day with no days named, so seven days by default: 98 hours a week, Building 8 unit R-05. It is one of four venues whose directory entry gives a window and no weekday at all — you cannot tell whether Friday differs without phoning. No menu, no prices.

10. Qinwan — Building 2, 08:00 to 22:00

The same window as La Lupa, 98 hours a week, Building 2 unit RF02, the closest food unit to the first cluster of offices. Dates and date-based products, nothing published on price. The domain qinwan.com is parked and for sale, so the Instagram handle in d3’s directory is the only channel the business controls.

11. The Lighthouse — Building 6, daily from 08:00, from AED 48

The best-known room in the district, the fullest published menu — and the only one of the fourteen that publishes an opening time and no closing time at all, which is why its hours-a-week cell is empty. Its own site gives Building 6 and “open daily from 8am”. Croissant AED 18, sunny side up eggs 48, avocado on toast 75; mains from 60. Licensed, and not in d3’s directory.

Which ones open later in the day?

Three of the fourteen, and where the district’s evening happens. Backyard has been serving eleven hours by the time Mayg unlocks the door.

12. Bistro Royal — Building 6, 10:00 to midnight, 02:00 Thursday and Friday

The latest close at d3, and the only published week built around the weekend: 10:00–00:00 Saturday to Wednesday, 10:00–02:00 Thursday and Friday, 102 hours a week. Its own site publishes Building 6 Unit 8, three phone numbers and two email addresses — and a menu page with no price on it.

13. Mohalla — Building 5, 12:00 to 22:45, from AED 22

Indian street food, Building 5 unit R06, 77.25 hours a week — and the cheapest published dish in the district. Its own menu puts the vada pav at AED 22, egg fried rice 28, kathi roll 35. Big plates start at AED 41 for the dal, then paneer butter masala 51, butter chicken 65. It opens at noon: lunch and dinner only.

14. Mayg — Building 11, 18:00 to 23:30

Dinner only, seven days, five and a half hours a night: 38.5 hours a week, the narrowest window at d3 by a distance — the next narrowest, Mohalla, is open twice as long. Building 11, units R06 and R02. Mayg and Bistro Royal are the two rooms here designed for taking a client out after work, and neither will tell you what it costs until you sit down.

Which venues did we name but not rank?

Two, and the reason is a fact rather than an opinion.

Soyl Restaurant, Building 7 unit R07, is in d3’s directory like the others — but its timing field is empty. It is the only directory entry that publishes no hours at all, and we do not rank a venue on a criterion it does not publish. Its absence is the information.

Home Bakery Kitchen, Building 7 unit R01, is in the directory with full hours — daily 07:00 to midnight — and would have finished joint first on them. It is out for a different reason: the brand’s own contact page lists four branches and none is at d3. The unit is called a Kitchen, and that may be exactly what it is.

Portals also place Akiba Dori, Mum’s Table, The Name, Toss & Co., Thea, Joe & The Juice and G.O.A.T Burger at d3. None is in the landlord’s directory and none publishes a current d3 address we could confirm, so none is ranked — an exclusion on evidence, not on quality.

Why do only five of the fourteen publish a price?

Because for nine of them, the channel d3’s directory gives as their “website” is an Instagram account. Instagram is a shopfront, not a menu: it shows the food and hides the bill. Four of the five that do publish own the domain it sits on; the fifth, The Lighthouse, publishes seven menu PDFs. Two better-known rooms run a website with a menu link and no numbers behind it, which is a choice, not an oversight.

What do the property portals get wrong about d3?

Both big UAE property portals run a “best restaurants in d3” page, and neither matches the landlord’s list. Bayut names thirteen venues, six of them in d3’s directory; Property Finder names ten, five of them. Between them they miss seven venues d3 itself lists as current tenants.

They also disagree with each other. Both publish a “cost for two”; for Bistro Royal one says AED 250 and the other AED 325, a gap of 30 %. Those are crowd estimates, not published prices, which is why none appears in our table. Bayut also puts Mohalla in Building 8; its own menu and d3’s directory both say Building 5.

Why is every restaurant open seven days when the showrooms are not?

This is the most striking number in the directory, and nobody seems to have done the subtraction. d3 lists 98 tenants. Fourteen sell food, and every one that publishes hours publishes seven-day hours. The other 84 are showrooms, boutiques and services — and 39 of them publish hours that never name a Saturday or a Sunday. Forty-six per cent of the district’s non-food tenants do not claim to open at a weekend.

It is a district built for Monday-to-Friday trade whose restaurants are not. The showrooms keep 09:00–18:00 on weekdays, the bank closes on Friday, the nursery closes at the weekend — while the food units run to 22:00, 23:30 or midnight every day. Come on a Saturday and you will find it easy to eat and hard to shop. Same pattern in Downtown, where three of the eight cafés we compared open at 07:00 and the mall above them does not.

What does a month of lunches cost at d3?

Take the cheapest published combination that is actually a meal: an americano at One Life at AED 20 and a kashkaval pide at AED 35 is AED 55, so twenty working days is AED 1,100 a month. At The Lighthouse, cheapest main AED 60, twenty lunches is AED 1,200 before coffee. A food number, not a desk number — but the figure nobody at d3 has in their head.

When does a desk beat a café table at d3?

Not always, and the arithmetic says exactly when. A day pass at Oh My Desk (that’s us) is AED 120 and a month of coworking is AED 950, VAT added at checkout. Divide 950 by 120 and you get 7.92, so from eight days a month the membership wins — by AED 10 on eight days, and by AED 1,450 on twenty, where twenty day passes would cost AED 2,400.

Below eight days a month, take the day passes. Come to d3 twice a quarter and a membership is worse value than a café table.

The meeting comparison is cleaner. A meeting room for up to eight people is AED 120 an hour, so two hours is AED 240 — precisely what four of The Lighthouse’s cheapest mains cost. If the meeting is the point, the room wins. If the meal is the point, the restaurant wins, because the room has no kitchen. A hot desk carries one hour of meeting room a month; a private office, six.

4. Are d3 restaurants open at the weekend? All fourteen are, and three — Bageri Form, Bistro Royal and Mohalla — stay open later at the weekend than midweek. The showrooms are the opposite: 39 of the 84 non-food tenants in the same directory publish hours that never name a Saturday or a Sunday.

5. How much does a meal cost in Dubai Design District? The cheapest hot dish with a published price is Mohalla’s vada pav at AED 22, then Smat’s scrambled Q-Roll at 24 and Vicolo’s sliced margherita at 29. A main starts at AED 41 at Mohalla, 50 at Smat and One Life, 60 at The Lighthouse. Nine publish no price at all.

The other 84 are furniture and lighting showrooms, fashion and jewellery boutiques, a bank, a pharmacy, a minimart, a barber, a florist, a nursery and a gym. Visiting on a Saturday? 39 of those 84 never publish a weekend.
